Three Weeks in May

The iGrowLemont Team – Ashley, Viviana & Caroline were blown away by the generosity & support from the Lemont community during the month of May.  We shared our dream of iGrowLemont and you did not hesitate to lend your support.  From donations of land to plants & seeds to water sprinkler systems to truck loads of dirt to cash donations to building the raised beds to getting your hands dirty & sowing the seeds & plants to much, much more.

Your generosity overwhelms us!  We know that the Lemont community will be blessed!

Here are a few pictures that highlight the month of May for iGrowLemont:

iGrow Lemont Kick Off this Saturday May 4th!

Please join us THIS SATURDAY, May 4th at 435 Talcott Ave, Lemont, IL.

We will be building our raised beds. We need men & women! So much to help with! Be a part of this movement with us. Wanna get a workout in? or have light carpentry skills and tools (saws, drills, hammer, nails, screws, levels and such). We will be hosting a tail gate party while we work here in the parking lot at 435 Talcott Ave.! There will also be music, street chalk and bean bags to help your kiddos stay busy while we work.

Also, we will need your help preparing the land for our raised beds. However, it looks like this will not happen this Saturday because of a scheduling conflict at the location. So prepare your trucks & grab your wheel barrows, shovels & rakes out of your sheds and be ready to get dirty! As soon as we know the exact day & time we will announce it here.

Make sure you Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for up to date information or last minute changes.

Thank you in advance!!!  See you Saturday May 4th at 11:00 am!!!

Sharing Our Dream of iGrowLemont

As the founders of iGrowLemont, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our dream. iGrowLemont was founded with a vision to cultivate a safe community where individuals and families come together to build a strong foundation for healthy living. It is an initiative that provides resources and opportunities that will equip and enhance the wellbeing of local residents.

DSC_3886Our first project will be a community garden. The garden, which will be developed on land generously donated by the Lemont Township, will be planted and maintained by local volunteers. The harvest will be used to stock the food pantries with fresh produce, supply vegetables for free cooking demonstrations, and will also be sold to raise funds for the Lemont General Assistance Fund. While Lemont is not identified as a food desert, the Village has over 200 families that depend on the local food pantries. Often fresh produce is limited (if not sometimes non-existent) for groceries to feed entire households! Thus the garden will provide service opportunities for residents and additionally will be a tool of service in its provisions for the community. iGrowLemont is an exciting new initiative designed to cultivate community simply by sowing seeds of change!

We’ve already secured the land, developed a design for the garden, and much more! As the plans begin to take shape, we know the success of this initiative depends on the participation of many. This is a community initiative! Please consider how you would like to partner with iGrowLemont. We estimate the cost of developing the garden project to be at least $4000.
